Transforming Lives:
Modern Solutions
For Rehabilitation

Technology is reshaping correctional environments, driving progress in both security and rehabilitation. We help correctional facilities create safer, more efficient operations while supporting inmates on their journey toward reintegration.

Rehabilitation

Empowering Growth, Building Futures

Inmates have long faced a major challenge: disconnection from the outside world. Traditional prison environments fostered isolation, making re-entry into society overwhelming. Without normal communication, education, and life skills, many individuals struggled with reintegration, resulting in higher recidivism rates.

Telio addresses this by restoring a sense of normality through technology. By introducing modern, socially responsible communication tools, we enable inmates to stay connected with their families, build digital skills, and develop a sense of inclusion—key to supporting successful rehabilitation.

Published Studies

Having more family contact during incarceration is hypothesized to promote adaptive functioning post-release. Specifically, in accordance with the literature, higher levels of contact are expected to predict lower rates of recidivism(…)

“In 2016, the RAND Corporation produced a report that showed that individuals who participate in any type of educational program while in prison are 43 percent less likely to return to prison.”

Past/Present/Future

The Journey of Change

As technology evolves, we partner with correctional facilities to support their evolution alongside it.

What began as phone calls from prison corridors has evolved into secure, personal communication available in many facilities. Today, we’re expanding access to video calls, bringing connection and rehabilitation closer than ever.

We’re investing in these advancements across the regions we serve. As families increasingly live far apart, video calls help reduce the sense of distance, easing both the mind and the heart.

The Old Way: Phones in the Corridor

No Privacy | Everyone hears everything. Personal conversations feel anything but personal.

Stressful and Exposed | Time pressure, eyes always watching, a setup that fuels tension and sometimes conflict.

One Chance, Often Lost | Long lines mean short windows. A missed connection. An unanswered call. Another day lost.

The New Way: Phones Inside the Cell

Privacy That Matters | Real conversations, free from judgment and the fear of being overheard.

Less Tension, More Safety | In-cell calling reduces crowding, gang control, and conflict around corridor phones.

Meaningful Moments, Made Possible | Call when the time is right. Say goodnight to their child and hear their partner’s voice.

Enabling Independence

Making Time For What Matters Inside Prisons

Working in a correctional facility means constantly switching between high-stakes security and endless admin tasks. Staff typically handle visit requests, manage communication requests, and coordinate services — all while maintaining order and safety.

Telio helps manage the repetitive, time-consuming tasks. With our tools, inmates can access information and services without needing to flag down staff for every minor request.

This improves efficiency and gives officers space to focus on what truly matters: safety, situational awareness, and meaningful engagement. Less paperwork. Fewer interruptions. A clearer view of the day ahead.

Equally important, it creates a more modern, manageable workplace — one that supports correctional officers and helps make facilities more appealing places to work and stay.

Real Impact In Prison Life

Transforming the Correctional System

Publish Studies

“Since the roll out of in-cell telephony, the number of phone call users has doubled, and the number of calls has quadrupled. Over 50% of the total prison population, approximately 34,000 inmates, are actively using the phones in their cell, and there are currently at about 52,000 in-cell phones installed with 100% coverage across all prisons in France. This comprehensive solution has significantly increased the volume of calls and their duration, with 24/7 service allowing detainees to make as many calls and for as long as they wish.”

“All the respondents feel that regular video contact with their incarcerated loved ones reduced the inmate’s distress. Almost all family links (93%) consider that video calls instil a greater desire in the inmate to be released from prison as soon as possible to reunite with family. Moreover, 87% of inmate relatives believe that video calling allows the inmate to improve the management of their life in detention.”

““This solution lightened the mood. In the end, everyone was happy. It has been a win-win strategy for inmates, their loved ones and prison staff”, highlighted the French system’s Director of Technological Programmes.”

Uniting Families

Connecting Hearts Foundation

It is estimated that over 22.5 million children worldwide, more than 1% of the global child population, have at least one parent in prison. (Sources: Penal Reform International; International Coalition for Children with Incarcerated Parents)

When a parent is incarcerated, their children may experience emotional trauma as a result of shame and social stigma.

Building Child-Friendly Connections

We advocate for consistent, meaningful contact between incarcerated parents and their children.

Educate and Engage Communities

We collaborate with global networks like Children of Prisoners Europe (COPE) to share insights at international conferences, and raise awareness to reshape public understanding and policy.

Partnering for Change

We work with nonprofits, prison administrations, and local communities to support child-focused programs.

When Caregivers Are Confined: A Glimpse Inside Portugal’s Female Prison

According to recent statistics, a significant percentage of incarcerated women are mothers, many of whom are the primary caregivers for their children before imprisonment.
Staying in touch with their families and children plays a vital role in the daily lives of incarcerated women, as maintaining these connections provides emotional support and stability.
